Katharine Hepburn Guts

I dare you.
You’re so this and I’m so not.
You can try if you want to, but it’s not going to work.
I’m sorry I would never go out with you; It’s just that I’m sure we’d drive each other crazy and nobody wants that.
It would take a whole day to prove to you that we are not meant to be.
I’m sure you would have a grand time on a date with me, but I’m not convinced that I would be having a grand time.

I said to my sister, “Sometimes I just want to say to a guy, ‘I dare you.  I dare you to pursue me.’  But who has the guts to say this?”  She said, “Katharine Hepburn.”  Then we thought of some other cheeky, yet possibly brilliant ways to dare a guy.  See above.

  1. I go back and forth so much: do I want to be more like Audrey Hepburn or Katharine Hepburn? The gamine or the Woman of the Year? (Have you seen that Katharine Hepburn movie? I adore it, except for the end.)

Recently, I said to a friend, “I know I exude Katharine, but it turns out I’d rather be treated like I was Audrey.” And by that, I meant: Katharine never needed to be pursued (in my interpretation of her and using my very Christian-y language), but Audrey, the men pursued her. Slash her characters.

  2. I definitely have a Katharine-like personality, but also find myself wishing I was more Audrey-like at times.

So my sis and I discussed it and we think perhaps Doris Day would be a good way to go. In times of trouble, for instance, Katharine would say, “Step aside! I’ll do it!” Doris would say, “Aw, come on! We can handle that!” And honestly, Audrey runs away a lot. Slash their characters.

Plus, Doris has such a great and boisterous singing voice!

Time to keep being myself, I guess.
